Our Preschool Philosophy

Dr. Montessori developed a philosophy which embraces the whole child. She found that by placing children in a specially prepared environment to meet their physical, cognitive and social needs and to satisfy their intrinsic interests, children not only learn but thrive.
At Montessori Children’s Academy, this philosophy is expressed in classrooms where children, ranging in ages over a three-year span, working individually or in small groups at developmentally appropriate tasks. Our students are encouraged to be independent, critical thinkers with inquiring minds and a love of learning. Throughout, we emphasize the importance of kindness, consideration and respect and maintain high expectations of behavior and good manners at all times.
Montessori Children’s Academy offers an individualized approach to learning which allows students to make progress at their own pace. The curriculum works with each child’s ability and strengths rather than the child working with a set curriculum where all children are doing the same work at the same time. Our individualized approach offers children freedom of choice in a dynamic, energized, free-flowing classroom where the directress has prepared the environment to give each child the choices he or she is ready for and learning is exciting.

“We can only give to each child the chance to fulfill his potential possibilities.”
– Dr. Maria Montessori.

Our Values & Beliefs

We believe that children are competent, capable learners unique and special when our beliefs are followed:

  • Each child’s mind, body and spirit should be nurtured and strengthened in order to tap into their unlimited potential. MCA does this through peace, creativity, play and reading time, they will know how to deal with any situation life presents for  him or her.
  • A multi-sensory approach which gives children the ability to make choices will maximize learning because it provides for individual learning styles and foster independence, self-esteem and self-discipline.
  • Developmental needs of children are universal and transcend cultural differences.
  • Children have a natural desire to explore and discover the world around them and find joy in learning when they are actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Children learn best in an environment of mutual respect and one that provides opportunities for cognitive, social, emotional, moral and physical growth.
  • Heterogeneous and multi-aged grouping provides opportunities for peer teaching, sharing and natural social development.
  • Children internalize concepts and skills at their own pace.
  • Childhood is a constant, healthy drive towards independence — and the only way to gain independence is to practice it.
  • We have enormous confidence in our staff to play an irreplaceable part in this great work. And we have confidence that as a team, we’ll achieve more than the sum of our parts.
  • There can be no compromise in an educator’s devotion to what’s best for each child under her/his care. Above all, this requires the recognition that the most important people in a child’s life are his parents.
